COMMUNITY ALERT! HELIX INVOICE SCAM

by blaqdon

Helix sent out a "fishing" scam invoice this morning.

My account was confirmed by Helix as cancelled in January.

It's not an "honest" mistake because the email states my method of payment is VISA/Mastercard.
I've never used a credit card with them. Also, the price is wrong - I never paid that price.

Here's the email:

This is a notice that an invoice has been generated on Friday, May 31st, 2019.

Why don’t you sort it out with Helix? Must you post it on Reddit? I’m not a Helix customer or affiliated, but raise the issue with them not here.

You do realize that phishing emails are not usually sent by the actual person or company referenced(in this case helix), right? Here's a likely scenario...Your email gets compromised and they search your email history and send phishing emails to you from spoofed addresses. Same could happen if Helix's email or client list was compromised. Chances of it being from Helix and not some sort of error are pretty slim imo.

Phishing is when someone else, an unknown party, obtains your email address and pretends to be Helix (or someone you have done business with in the past) and sends you an invoice with a link to pay it that does not belong to Helix.

This email is quite obviously from Helix, as you seem to be blaming them for it, you must be certain the email is from them. And if the email is from them, it's not a phishing scam. It's a misunderstanding.

Email them and sort it out like an adult.

Hmmm... I was charged twice a few months ago and it took a couple of stern messages to them before a refund was raised. Their payment system ( without Paypal) leaves a lot to be desired.

Don't pay it and move on. Why the drama here?
